The Go-To Tie

The Go-To Tie

It's always a good idea to have a plethora of ties in varying textures and patterns but unless you plan your outfit the night before (and that's about none of us) then you're probably spending far too long in the morning mixing and matching shirts and ties.  If this sounds like you, then you clearly need a "go-to" tie.  The concept of a go-to tie has been around for decades but alas has been abused over and again.  The go-to tie should not only match at least six of your favorite shirts, it should be flattering.  Too often do men mistake any regular tie with a go-to tie.

Invest your spare dollars in a rep-stripe tie and remember to always use the rule of three (colors that is). It should always have three of fewer colors because if there are any more it would lose it's greatest quality - versatility.  The base color should generally be dark gray or black and any remaining color(s) should contrast.  If chosen properly, your tie will be the focal point of the outfit and will compliment the bulk of shirts in your closet.  Not to mention it will make you look quite dashing.  The go-to tie: an essential element of the Dapper Man's repertoire.
